Description of the Business Line or Department • The European Leveraged Loan Syndicate team (also known as Leveraged Capital Markets) is reponsible for the underwriting and syndication of non-investment loans and private subordinated debt across the EMEA region. The team works closely with origination business lines (for Telecoms & Media clients as well as Private Equity Sponsors), as well as partnering with other syndicate teams in US, Asia and with complementary product teams such as High Yield Capital Markets and High Yield Bond Syndicate Summary of the key purposes of the role • Support the senior members of the team who are responsible for underwriting and syndicating Societe Generale's leveraged loan activity in EMEA • Provide support on both analytical and presentational work, often within tight deadlines • Become an invaluable member of the team by producing reliable and accurate market data and comparable analysis in order to assist senior colleagues • Immediate exposure to underwriting and syndication process with the expectation that the analyst has a steep learning curve Summary of responsibilities Market analysis: • Ensure that the team is provided with up to date market analysis, as well as sharing this analysis with other business lines • Preparation of weekly/fortnightly market update materials and other reporting tools, as well as timely reporting to league table publishers • Preparation of other ad-hoc market updates for use throughout the bank: Credit Research, credit department • Responsibility for maintaining an updated database of comparable transactions (comps) and utilising this database for market analysis Marketing/syndication: • Preparation of client pitches and other marketing materials including deal tombstones • Preparation of syndication materials: teasers, Information Memoranda, management presentations (involving close co-operation with origination teams) and other client marketing documents - under supervision of a senior colleague • Helping to prepare memos for underwriting approval by senior management, together with a senior colleague: key input from the analyst will include comps section, liquidity analysis, market update, timetable, breakeven analysis of fees etc • Review of Due Diligence materials to ensure suitability for syndication purposes • Prepare allocation and fee spreadsheets for close of syndication, in partnership with Loan Sales • Proactivity and initiative required: although under the supervision of a senior colleague, the analyst is expected to produce quality materials autonomously Admin / mandatory files: • Preparation of Permanent Supervision files: closing memos, fee forms, deal summaries which are shared internally with other business lines • Liaise with internal departments including COO to ensure accurate reporting of fees Co-operation: • Strong team spirit: willingness to work long hours and to tight deadlines, as per the requirements of the leveraged finance dealflow pipeline • Adaptability / flexibility to work with every member of the team, senior and junior • Work will often require detailed research and cooperation with other departments within the bank: Sales and Trading, High Yield Capital Markets, High Yield Bond Syndicate, other Loan Syndicate teams (including US and Asia), Origination (TMT and LBO), Financial Sponsor Coverage Delegated responsibilities • Ongoing responsibility for maintaining accurate comparables database (including supervising any database input from the VIE/intern) • Ensure Permanent Supervision is completed in a timely manner on any deals to which the analyst is assigned Level of autonomy and authority • The position requires the holder to display a certain degree of autonomy and with the requirement for quick and effective decision making. Whilst working directly for the team, the analyst will have a mentor whose responsibility it is to ensure the analyst is learning about all aspects of the business on an ongoing basis. • Will be required to support senior colleagues • As the team works on the private side the candidate has to be aware of confidentiality requirements at all times Profile: Competencies • Strong time management: multi-tasking / prioritising / meeting tight deadlines • Fluent English to business standard, including written ability; other foreign languages a plus but not mandatory • Very high level of accuracy and attention to detail • Willingness to ask questions and learn quickly • Communication skills (learning from others in the team, especially the mentor) • Teamwork (helping out wherever and whenever needed) • Adaptability / flexibility (including on working hours) • Ability to work under pressure; dynamism and resilience • Strong self motivation; the candidate will be required to source and update information without prompting • Strong analytical skills • Clear and concise writing, communication and presentation skills • Initiative (a successful candidate can be given increased responsibilities once they have proved their skills) • Strong interest in financial markets, macroeconomic and related geopolitical events • Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint Work Experience • Previous experience (VIE or intern or junior analyst) within a loan syndicate or DCM team, preferably non-investment grade, or • Leveraged Finance Origination Education • Graduate from Engineering school, Business School or University with a master degree in Finance. You have a strong interest in financial markets, macroeconomic and related geopolitical events.
