The Manufacturing Service Engineer position will support service related activities within the manufacturing environment. The role will incorporate managing the Service functions for new & existing products including; technical assistance/validation with repair manual creation; providing technical support to the Olympus global Sales Business Centre’s; completing Service related projects designed to improve manufacturing services; initiating cost reduction, process improvements & tooling development on existing products; Engineering support to the RRC’s workshops & customers in the UI region
Analyse repair data to identify trends with repair failures and determine whether a cost reduction, process improvement or tooling development initiative can be instigated and manage that initiative through to completion
Manage from conception to implementation cost reduction activities, process improvements and new tooling design based on trend analysis
Liaise with the manufacturer to gain approval to implement any cost reduction
Implement and measure the success of those initiatives
Assist the Technical Illustrator in the creation of new Technical Repair documentation and validate those documents in accordance with the current manufacturing standards
Validate any changes with existing Technical Repair documentation and ensure updates are managed in accordance with the current manufacturing standards
Validate any Service Bulletins or modification notices prior to their release in accordance with current manufacturing/Service standards
Provide Technical Support internally for enquiries relating to parts, tools & jigs and repair procedures
Designated point of contact for all Olympus Service Departments relating to M-BC manufactured products
Management of Product Obsolescence relating to M-BC manufactured products New Product Introduction:
Attend New Product Design meetings to provide Service experience and feedback from S-BC’s on previous product designs
Carry out prototype reviews for serviceability
Prepare and assist hosting NRI meetings on New Products
Preparation of Service documentation (in conjunction with the Technical Illustrator) relating to the release of a New Product
Investigate designing or acquiring new tools, jigs & test equipment to aid the repair process of New Products General Manufacturing/Workshop & Customer Support
Conduct QIS & Technical Investigations; providing a technical report on the results of that investigation
Provide Technical/Product support to all UI staff involved with the repair & service of medical devices
Support the Technical Administration team by maintaining data accuracy & integrity for M-BC manufactured products
HNC in engineering or equivalent qualification or completed an apprenticeship in an engineering discipline
Clear & concise written and spoken communication skills
Ability to present information in a structured way to audiences of varied technical levels
Organised and can plan/schedule efficiently
Experience in a Service Support or Manufacturing Engineering role (preferred)
Experience in 8d, 6-Sigma quality processes (preferred)

If you have previous experience in a technical role, electronic wiring or soldering experience or other fine hand skills gained through other means (origami, model making etc) then Olympus would be interested in hearing from you.
As part of a European project, Olympus will be introducing a new night shift within our Medical Repairs division and require a large number of operatives to be fully trained up to work for us on an 18 month Fixed Term Contract.
Disassembly, refurbishment, repair, assembly and testing of a range of products to the required quality standards and within documented time limits.
Reading, understanding and adhesion to standard operating procedures as defined in repair manuals, method sheets and other documented processes or regulations
Inspection & quality checks throughout the repair process by means of visual inspection and/or electronic and mechanical function tests
The correct application and use of precision hand tools, soldering irons, test equipment, adhesives and chemicals
Accurate completion of administrative duties or inputting data relating to the repair process on computer systems or repair worksheets.
Adhering to the quality, health & safety and working practice expectations of the Technical Services division
Providing additional support to ensure that the Service division’s KPI targets can be achieved and completing
Previous experience in a technical role, electronic wiring, soldering experience or other fine hand skills gained through other means (origami, model making etc)
Ability to read and understand detailed technical instructions
A good level of literacy, with an ability to be able to read and write clearly and concisely
Good computer literacy, including the use of email, and data entry
